The membership model of care allows our physicians to spend more time with each patient, building a meaningful connection between the patient and our providers. This relationship allows our clinicians to focus on preventive care, proven to improve overall health outcomes, reduce hospital and ER utilization, and curb unnecessary testing and procedures.

As a membership cardiology program, we offer compassionate and personalized care so that patients can truly understand their health and are better able to participate in their own care.

High Connectivity

Our goal is to be available to you when needed. You will be able to contact your clinician by a dedicated phone line and email, making it easier than ever to communicate. Our goal is to provide support, at any age or stage of health, in understanding your personal values, life goals, and preferences regarding current and future medical care.

Longer Detailed Visits

Most patients are scheduled for 60 minutes so you have time to speak with your clinician for relaxed and unhurried detailed advice.

For your convenience, we offer non-invasive cardiovascular testing in the Innovation Cardiology clinic.

Our clinicians have medical staff privileges at CHKD, Sentara Heart and Chesapeake Regional Hospital and coordinate care with inpatient physicians as needed.

What is the mission of your practice?
At Innovation Cardiology, we’re dedicated to a proactive, all-encompassing strategy for disease prevention, longevity, and wellness, alongside outstanding cardiovascular care for those with established disease. Our aim is to ensure you receive top-tier care and cardiovascular services, emphasizing compassion and patient-centeredness to build a foundation of trust between clinician and patient.
How is the Membership program different from a traditional Cardiology practice?
We have limited the size of the Innovation Cardiology Membership Practice so that more time can be devoted to each patient’s care and individual needs. Our goal is to be available to you whenever needed. You will be able to contact your clinician by a dedicated phone line and email, making it easier than ever to communicate. We offer members non-covered amenities and benefits designed to personalize and enhance their health care experience. This practice model also enables us to schedule most appointments for 60 minutes, but some (for example, a comprehensive cardiovascular assessment) may take longer. If an issue requires extra time for evaluation or discussion, we will accommodate you.
What services are provided as a part of my annual membership fee?
Your annual fee pays for non-clinical, non-covered services. Professional services that are covered by Medicare or a commercial insurance plan will be billed separately by the Practice, and you will continue to be responsible for any applicable co-pays, deductibles, or non-covered medical services relating to those services.
Would my Innovation Cardiology Clinician also serve as my Primary Care Provider?
The Innovation Cardiology Clinicians have multiple board certifications, however, we do not take over the role of primary care provider. We work closely with your PCP.
Who will be my Clinicians?

We firmly believe that by integrating the expertise of both the physician and the cardiac nurse practitioners (NP), we can achieve unparalleled excellence in cardiovascular care. Our collaborative model emphasizes seamless coordination and communication between Dr. Mohit Bhasin and Cardiac NP Hannah Burmeister, ensuring that patients benefit from a comprehensive and multidimensional approach to their cardiac health.

What if I have an emergency?

If you have a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately.

What should I do if I become ill while traveling or away on an extended vacation?

If the problem is minor, we may be able to help virtually. If you seek care at an emergency room or urgent care center out of our area, you should feel free to ask the physician seeing you to call us to facilitate information exchange and coordination of your care. If you should require hospitalization while away, at your request, we will attempt to establish phone communication with you and your attending physician(s) to ensure continuity of care.

Will the Innovation Cardiology testing facility remain on-site?

Yes. Transthoracic Echocardiograms, ECG’s, and ambulatory heart monitors will remain available to all patients. These noninvasive tests will continue to be performed at the Innovation Cardiology office. For other tests or specialized procedures, you may be referred to a testing facility. Our staff will assist in scheduling these tests.

Do I still need health insurance if I enroll with you?

Yes. Your annual membership fee pays for the non-clinical, non-covered amenities, and benefits that are described in the Highlights & Details document. Neither the fee nor the amenities take the place of general health insurance coverage. You are advised to continue your Medicare or other health insurance program coverage.

Will my physician be a ‘Provider’ on my insurance plan?

Innovation Cardiology providers intend to remain in-network providers for most major PPO insurance plans and Innovation Cardiology will bill your insurance directly for professional services that are covered by those plans. If the terms of your insurance plan require a co-pay, Innovation Cardiology is obligated to request payment at the time of service. Even if Innovation Cardiology is not a provider for your insurance plan, we will attempt to refer you to in-network physicians for any necessary consultations and to in-network facilities for diagnostic tests and hospitalizations as medically indicated. Those services will likely be covered by your insurance plan.

Will my private insurance reimburse my annual membership fee?

The annual membership fee is not reimbursable by your insurance plan.

Will my physician be a Participating ‘Provider’ for Medicare?

Yes. Innovation Cardiology will file your claims with Medicare as well as with your supplemental insurer on your behalf, as required by law. Office visit fees that are not reimbursed by insurance will be the responsibility of the patient.

Do you bill Medicare for my annual membership fee?
No. The annual fee only includes services and benefits described in the Highlights & Details document that are not covered by Medicare (or any other payer) and that will not be paid for or reimbursed by Medicare.
Is the annual membership fee tax deductible or reimbursable through my HSA or FSA?
In some instances, the annual fee, or part of the fee, may be payable through your HSA. You are advised to consult with your HSA or FSA plan administrator, employer, HR representative, or tax adviser to clarify qualification in your particular circumstance.
What are my annual membership fee payment options?
Your annual fee may be paid in full by check to: Innovation Cardiology or may be paid annually or semiannually by credit card. If you opt to pay by credit card, the first payment will be charged to the credit card you indicate on your Membership Agreement form upon receipt of your membership enrollment form. Until we hear otherwise, payments will be processed continually.
What about labs, X-rays, specialists’ fees and hospitalization?
Your annual fee pays for membership in the membership program and for many non-covered benefits. All medical procedures and services, whether performed in Innovation Cardiology or by other providers or health care facilities, will be billed by the performing entity.
What happens if I move out of the area and need to terminate after I enroll?
Your membership agreement can be terminated upon 90 days’ written notice to us. If you move and wish to secure a new cardiologist, the annual fee will be refunded on a prorated basis. Your medical records will be sent to your new doctor upon receipt of a signed release from you authorizing/directing Innovation Cardiology to send the records to your new doctor. This release of records is required by law.
